Hi,
here is an english version for its manual.

Note:
the syntex is poor - a byproduct of online translators Улыбка , yet to save time (and effort) I opted to use them.
In spite of the awkward english, it should provide the necessary information.

the credits for the gauge and the manual - to Leon Colner!

ok, here goes..

Weather-navigation radar PT-Groza(thunderstorm) -154

the radar is intended for providing flight safety in complex meteorological conditions and in the absence of visibility, and allows the crew to solve the following problems:
• to observe on the indicator screen the meteorological condition in front of the aircraft and to reveal clouds with turbulent thunderstorm activity
• through the contour mode - to reveal the zones of dangerous thunderstorm centers and the possibilities to avoid them

The radar is noise-immune. The display is not distorted With bank and pitch through to the application of a set of gyrostabilizators.

operation principles - technical data

1 Avarege observation range of thunderstorm activity areas (average development) > 200Km

2 range is angular, the inclination of the axis of radiation pattern relative to the horizon -
above 10 deg.
below 15 deg

3 range of angular azimuthal scan sideways relative to the axis of aircraft: deg +/-100

4 bank and pitch angle, with which gyrostabilization system ensure steady image- deg 20

5 frequencies of the azimuthal scanning of the antenna, cycles/min- 10

6 width of the antenna radiation pattern, deg. < 3

7 nonlinearity on the indicator screens, %, are no more than 3

8 scale viewable on the screen km 10-375

9 quantity of range marks,on the operational part of the screen
scale switch to the left - no marks
scale switch to the right - 4 marks for 25KM and 2 marks for 100 Km

principles

RLS PT Groza-154 is pulse-modulated X-BAND RADAR with azimuthal plane scanning antenna. In accordance with the tactical designation RLS PT Groza-154 is used in the following operating modes "Ready", "meteo", "Contour", "removal". The necessary mode is applied by setting the mode switch on the control unit and the control panel.

1."ready" (standby) Mode - In this mode the radar is connected to the onboard electrical system of the aircraft. the high voltage for the transmitter is OFF.

2."meteo" Mode - is provided for obtaining the weather situation. It can provide reflections from various weather formations in the atmosphere: thunderstorm fronts, regions with increased turbulence and other phenomena.
With this mode all scales use narrow radiation pattern.

If its necessary to scan at other tilt angles, the antenna radiation pattern can be inclined by hand relative to the the horizon upward up to 10 and downward down to 15 degrees while retaining the working state of the gyrostabilization system.

3 "Contour" Mode. In this mode the crew can evaluate the level of hazard of flight in a zone of thunderstorm activity or Cumulus congested cloudiness. It is based on the intensity of the reflected signal from hazardous zones relative to that of non-hazardous areas.
The strong signals, which correspond to hazardous zones, are attenuated, and appear as dark spots, which are contrastingly separated against the bright background formed by reflections from the not dangerous zones.
The "Contour" mode uses narrow radiation pattern. it has a setup to prevent a possibility of erroneous estimation of close not dangerous cloudiness, giving strong signals.

4. "removal" (drift) Mode. It serves for the measurement by the crew of the drift angle of the aircraft in the case the DISS - DOPPLER SPEED-AND-DRIFT METER -013 fails, and the use of this information for navigation.

For determining the drift angle:
1. switch th "REMOVAL"(drift) mode on.
2.wait until the antenna is stabilized in the 0 position.
3. using antenna turn keys, turn the antenna to the left/e right until you attain the minimal width of the lit sector.
4.take a reading of the drift angle from the position of the lit sector.

Note. "Earth" mode at the present moment is under developement, and temporarily does not work.

Start, functional test and operation in flight

Warning! antenna RLS in the mode of emission converts pulse electric current energy of superhigh frequencies into the pulse energy of the electromagnetic waves OF SHF range. The pulse power of emission is 11 kW Therefore with the functional test to operator necessary to know and to strictly carry out the precautionary measures, having completely excluded in this case the irradiation of people. WARNING: Irradiation of people - crime!

Before beginning checking RLS it is necessary to ascertain that under the aircraft and in the forward half sphere at a distance not less than 100 m there are no people and large reflecting structures.

Start and functional test.
On board the aircraft, the power supply is 27 v, DC; 115V 400 Hz AC;36 v three-phase AC
it is necessary to ascertain that AZS "GROZA" is switched on, on the right panel of the automatic circuit breakers.

1.setup the switches on the control panel and the indicators to the initial position:

• switch "PRD I-II" to THE "I" position
• switch "Stab. - otkl." -to the "stab" position
• the mode switch - "ready" (standby)
• switch "scale km" -at the the mid-position
• switch "inclination" - 10 * upward

2. turn on the aircrafts vertical gyro MGV-1c (STU -154), switching on "SAU- STU" and "MGV control" on the upper electrical shield of pilots to the upper position.

3. on the control panel press "RLS", the illumination of the inscriptions on the control panel will turn on as well as the light-emitting diode for the "ready" mode.

4. after warming up RLS (3-5 minutes) switch the mode selector to "meteo". the light-emitting diode for this mode will light up.

5. to verify the operation of the "scale km" , slowly turn it from the right position to the extreme left. In this case on the screens must smoothly change a quantity of scale rings . The "scale km" rings distance should be absent with the end left position. With the extreme right the screen must show four rings one every 25 km, two which follow through 100 km. the quantity of rings should be tested at azimuthal angles of 40-45 * or 310-320 *.

on a scale of more than 200 km its possible for a reduction in the brightness of the rings.

6.set the regulator "inclination" to position 5 *.

7.set the mode switch to "contour" mode.the corresponding light-emitting diode should light up. In this mode, when inside the bright images of thunderstorm belts and cumulonimbus cloudiness (in case of their presence) the darkened sections of dangerous center of thunderstorms must be separated.

8.set the mode switch to "ready" and only after this switch on the backup transceiver using the switch "PRD I-II", by setting it to the position "II". test - as indicated above.

9. set the switches on the control panel and the to the initial position and push the off key(otkl).

12.turn off the aircrafts vertical gyro MGV-1c.

Operation of the Radar in flight.

The radar should be turned on after engine start; moreover the mode switch must remain in the "ready" (standby) mode until the aircraft is on the runway.
Under poor visibility conditions before takeoff its necessary to set the mode to "meteo" on the scale of 50 km with this radar.
it will scan by narrow beam in the direction of the motion of the aircraft. Depending on flight conditions the switch of modes can be set to one of the following positions: "Meteo", "contour", "drift". The"meteo" mode is used for detecting the thunderstorm cloudiness in the limits of the sector of sscanning and it makes it possible to determine its extent and position relative to the aircraft. In the mode "meteo" the screens show the radar trace of the air situation within the limits + -100 * in the horizontal plane and + -2 * in the vertical plane. So that the sector of scanning would not depend on bank and pitch of the aircraft, it is especially important that when evading the center of thunderstorms, the axis of the antenna radiation pattern is stabile

When interpreting the radar trace, obtained in the "meteo" mode , it is necessary to keep in mind that the analyzed image is a horizontal sectional view of cloudiness at plane of the flight: nearer to to center screen are the zones of cloudiness, which are located nearthe aircraft, and it is further from the center (nearer to the edge of screen) - zones of cloudiness, distant to the aircraft , determined by the selected scale.
For evaluating the degree of the vertical development of weather formations it is necessary to use the knob "inclination".

In the "contour" mode one can evaluate the level of hazard of flight in the discovered zone of thunderstorm activity or Cumulus congested cloudiness.
The isolation of hazardous zones is based on the intensity of the signal, reflected from them,in relation to the intensity of the signal, reflected from the not dangerous zones.

in case of failure of the DISS - DOPPLER SPEED-AND-DRIFT METER -013 the drift angle of aircraft can be measured with the aid of the radar, which works in the mode "removal".
In this case on the concentric images of the displaced signal screens the are reflected.
when changing the azimuthal turn of the antenna using the keys on the control panel until the illuminations from the shifted signal disappear, The advanced angle of antenna will be the drift angle of aircraft and it can be measured on the stationary ray.

If in the process of work the radars basic transceiver failed, indicated by the disappearance of the image, the crew should switch the backup transceiver using the switch, located on the control panel. In this case it is necessary to observe the following sequence:
set on the control panel the mode switch to the position "ready" and to only then activate the backup transceiver.

In case of failure of the gyrostabilization of the radars antenna , which is possibleif the MGV-1C fails, the image will move depending on the change of angular bank and pitch of aircraft. In this case it is necessary to open the stabilization of antenna using "Stab. - otkl " switch, located on the control panel. The Antenna in this case will be rigidly attached to the construction axle of aircraft.
If for some period of the flight, the radar is not used, its necessary to set it in the "ready" mode.
In this case the probability radar failure is reduced and the general period of its service increases.

the special features implemented in the simulator

• The radar is independent of aircrafts MGV. In the current release the, gyrostabilization works with its own vertical gyro, which makes it possible to use the radar on any aircraft types in sim.

• The radar is independent of the onboard system of power supply.

• The radarincludes into two DIFFERENT transceivers. Basic is less precise, but consumes less computer resources. The Reserve is more precise, but also needs greater computer resources.
To switch between them the radar should be TURNED OFF!!!; moreover the mode switch should be set to the "ready" position PRIOR TO the disconnection, and BEFORE the start.

• When using the radar it is necessary to remember that the implementation of weather in the sim is rather primitive - therefore don't be surprised if on the screen one moment there's nothing, but the next moment you fly into some rain and the screen becomes all illuminated.
frequently this is manifested when downloading weather from the net -The sim sometimes refreshes the weather at the most critical moment.

• for saving FPS you can switch the radar to the "ready" mode - in this case it consumes the least resources.
Or you can completely turn it off - the code is written in such a way that turned-off, the radar simply stays. You will lose only on the period of its preparation for work - it takes 10-20 seconds from shutoff to fully operating conditions .

*edit*

added a small section for "drift mode

Hello,

I just made a whole flight, and tried to use the Groza Radar.

The problem is that I'm not sure how to understand who to interprete what is shown ...

Just see the attached screen. What does it mean ? The black areas are clouds ?

What's more, is the configuration of the radar correct ? (I was in flight)

Thanks for your help,

Улыбка)

you're just fine!
since you are using it in "KOHTYP" (contour) mode, the dark zones are indeed the danger areas. (the signal is attenuated to achieve contrast)

normaly you would set it to the "METEO" mode where you'll see the clouds as green reflections, and switch to contour when you get strong signals in order to get a better visualization.

the arcs are the scale marks, each 25Km in width.

you can tilt the antenna +10deg to -15 deg in order to see what's above or below you. set it to 5 deg in flight and tilt it when required.

You can also use the more percise radar (at a cost!) by switching the PRD from I to II in the order described above.

OK, Roger ha5mvo, thanks for the quick answer !

So, in normal operation flight, it should be switched to METEO mode (unless there are strong storms) ... and in this case, the storms would be shown as green ... Am I right ?

For the framerate, I have a significative loss with the I mode ... so I don't try the II mode Счастье hihi

(28FPS switched off, and 18 switched on, on I mode !)

Thanks again,

Gentlemen,

I downloaded that file three times but I am getting something that does not look like a gauge and does not work even though I followed the instruction of the readme file. Here is the title of what I am getting:
groza.rar

If it is the file, then I do not know what I have done wrong since I did follow step by step the instructions (this is not the first time I install a gauge, but this one is special...). When I press shift+9 I get nothing

Here are the relevant section of my panel cfg file:

Hi,
seems all right....
just a shot in the dark...you don't have a duplicate ident number for two different windows, right?
and you didn't forget to extract the actual gauge...Улыбка

try this panel config:

http://www.protu-154.com/forum/download.php?id=4124

its for the NoVC panel and will use shift + 5 for the KLN and shift + 9 for the weather radar

Thank you for your prompt reply. I do not have two windows with the same ident, but I did not "extract" that gauge other than using DAP and opening the file mentioned above (Groza.rar) which I copied to the gauge folder of FS9. Is that correct or was I supposed to do something else?

Actually when I downloaded the file instead of the normal file, I get a message from DAP unzip that I should download to open 18 different sort of zip files, when I open the folder where the downloaded file is I have the Groza.rar, now if I have to extract that file what should I use please, do I need a special unzip utility?

Again many thanks for your kind help!

oh, nothing special about "extracting", I just wanted to ask if you didn't forget to put the actual gauge in the gauge folder...
you should have there a file called groza_154_1_rc.gau which should weigh 780 kb.
I'm not familiar with DAP. I use winrar and find it very convenient, but if you managed to unzip other rar files with DAP without a problem, I see no reason why it should quirk up on you now..
